German food is stereotyped as Potatoes, bread, and beer. It is all of those delectable foods, but also so much more! Germany has unique cakes, delicious ice cream, fresh fruit, and much more to offer.

Bienenstichkuchen

I believe that some of the best bread in the world comes from Germany. Even when you walk into grocery stores you will find bakeries filled with hundreds of bread types. In this carb loving country it is hard to walk even a few blocks without smelling fresh bread being baked. Pretzel rolls are a personal favorite of mine, they are always soft and bursting with flavor. It is probably because they combine bread and Germany's other delicious carb, pretzels. As scrumptious as the pretzels are, westerners be warned, they do not come with cheese, and if you ask for cheese they will look at you like you're crazy. I would accompany my pretzels with a Peppermint Ritter Sport, which is my favorite chocolate(pictured below). It combines lush dark chocolate with a smooth peppermint filling. When I was in Germany I ate Ritter Sport almost everyday... because it was so yummy and there are more flavor options than I can count. Here is link to a mini Ritter Sport variety pack https://www.amazon.com/Ritter-Sport-Schokowurfel-flavors-176g/dp/B000LQJKCM/ref=sr_1_11_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1518975271&sr=8-11&keywords=ritter+sport+chocolate+mini

“German chocolate is like no other chocolate in the world.”

Now that we are on chocolate I'll have to tell you of the other delectable chocolate's such as milka and kinder. Maybe you know about the infamous kinder eggs(they're illegal in the US) that are a perfect blend of hazelnut and white chocolate. Schokolade Eis(chocolate ice cream) is also very popular. In Germany there are Ice cream cafes where you can purchase any type of ice cream. They even have spaghetti ice cream, pictured below! I will write a post about Ice Cream Cafes soon.

Kuchen & Kaffee

It's three in the afternoon and time for kuchen and kaffee(cake and coffee) which is a popular practice done by many Germans. While in Germany I attended multiple Kaffeeklatsch(What the coffee and cake time is called). It was generally a elegant setting of cake, tea, fruit, and coffee. It is normally like a small tea party with friends and family. Germany has so many cakes to offer. I love German cakes, and my favorite is probably the Bienenstichkuchen, which is a vanilla cake with pastry filling, honey, almonds, and a whipped cream mixture. Another delectable cake is the Schwarzwelderkirchtorte, also known as German Black Forest Cake. I will post a recipe later on how to make this amazing chocolate, cherry, and whipped cream filled cake.

All in all Germany has a variety of scrumptious foods that will fulfill your stomach and soul!
