Miyajima, Japan is known as the deer island because of the many tame deer that live there. After venturing to this island I can tell you that it's full of adventure and deer!

From Hiroshima we took a ferry over to the island, the ride was short but serene as we could see the large Torii gates standing in the ocean. As we departed the ferry and wandered onto Miyajima we saw deer wandering around, nibbling on tourists clothing and brochures! The deer were all very friendly and only a little nosy... As we explored the quaint downtown area we were delighted to find many shops filled with tiny maple leaf cakes. My friend and I each tried one and to our delight they were filled with chocolate. We wandered up into the woods a bit where we found more deer along with cute little cottages. Along the way back to town
we crossed a creek using a beautiful red traditional styled bridge. As we boarded the ferry back to the mainland we waved bye to the deer of Mijajima island.
